ENERGY MINISTER GÜLER: SUSPENSION OF THE NABUCCO PROJECT IS OUT OF QUESTION

!àğĞ °="justify">Energy and Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Güler said on Wednesday that the suspension of the Nabucco project which will enable the "transportation of the Azerbaijani natural gas to Europe via Turkey" was out of question. Minister Güler answered questions from the press prior to the inauguration ceremony of the "26th Energy Efficiency Week" activities held at Mineral Research and Exploration Institute in Ankara.
Stressing that the Nabucco project was important for both Turkey and Europe, Güler stated that negotiations were going on and a meeting was held with a French gas company officials who visited Turkey last week.
Güler expressed that there were countries on the Nabucco route, which were interested in the project.
"There are countries in the Balkans, which want to buy gas. There are also countries which want to extend Nabucco beyond Austria. These are all different projects. We will continue our studies on the most advantageous combination in regards to our national interests," he added.
Replying a question on the likely involvement of France and Armenian ‘Genocide’ stance of that country, Güler said they would take up the issue considering all aspects: national interests, economic, social, strategic…
"TPAO explorations in Northern Iraq"
On the natural gas exploration operations of the state company TPAO in Northern Iraq, Hilmi Güler said their only counterpart in that country is the central government, implying the invalidity of Northern Iraq regional government at the issue.
The minister said they were waiting for the new oil law of Iraq, and meanwhile they were carrying out preliminary studies.
Egyptian natural gas
On arrival of Egyptian natural gas to Turkey, Güler said they were working on a 230-km long natural gas pipeline with 93-km part in Turkish side connecting Kilis in Turkey with Humus in Syria for the natural gas transmission from Egypt.
Güler added that in the last protocol signed with Egypt, joint oil and natural gas exploration works involving state company TPAO were included.
