!á½pze="2">The Greek Atrocities (Izmir, Aydin, Manisa, Denizli, 1919-1923), The Ataturk Research Center, 2. print, Ankara, 2006

Alongside the Armenian genocide allegations that have preoccupied the international agenda the Pontus genocide allegations also continue to try to lay the focus of the eye of accusation on all Turks and Turkish history, in this troubled time this publication which is in its second print, tries to put forth evidence of a premeditated and systematic genocide that targeted Turks. Although this publication is constrained to the 1919 – 1923 period it references the reasons behind the Greek atrocities carried out against the Turkish people during this time and also covers in depth the ramifications of the ‘Megali Idea’ as instigated by the Greeks.

The publication is presented in three parts; the Greek invasion policy and the Greek atrocities, the Greek atrocities in the Aydin province, and reactions to the Greek atrocities. It especially shines with its meticulously prepared bibliography of reference materials such as archive materials and period documents. It also has an extensive list of reports, records and newspaper articles that are used to clarify the aim behind the Greek massacre; this information is cross referenced with the reactions of military and civil authorities, the Turkish people, and other nations. Although it is stated that this publication is not a documentary in nature it does aspire to present an important vista to the Greek atrocities and along with it a new approach to presenting its findings.

The thesis that Greece with the support of the victors of WWI proceeded to invoke a full scale genocide and annihilation policy against the Turks is presented with authority and further supported by the presentation of the role of the Greek massacre in the historical context of the Turkish War of Liberation. In conclusion the publication leaves no avenue of doubt as to the authenticity of the allegations of the policy of genocide and annihilation carried out during the Greek Anatolian misadventure. In a time in which purposefully distorted historical events are used to surmount political pressure in order to torment Turkey and Turks in the international arena, this publication holds fast the reins of historical accuracy and presents the aims and consequences of the genocide and the inhumane atrocities implemented against the Turks during the Greek invasion of Anatolia.
