I would like you listen for a moment to some echoes... Form a recent page in Turkish-US relations: The Kunuri Battle.
Echoes of the Kunuri Battle“The sacrifices of the Turks will eternally remain in our minds,” Washington Tribune.
“The Turks who have been known throughout history by their courage and decency,” Burner - U.S. congressman
"There is no one left who does not know that the Turks, our valuable allies," Claude Pepper, U.S. senator
"Courage, bravery and heroism are the greatest virtues which will sooner or later conquer. In this matter, I know no nation superior to the Turks," Rose - U.S. Senator
“We owe the escape of thousands of United Nations troops out of a certain encirclement to the heroism of the Turkish soldiers. The Turkish soldiers in Korea have added a new and unforgettable page of honor to the customs and legends of heroism of the Turkish nation," Emanuel Shinwell, minister of defense of the United Kingdom.
"The heroic soldiers of a heroic nation, you have saved the Eighth Army and the IX'th Army Crops,” General Walton H. Walker, commander, Eighth Army"The Turks are the hero of heroes,” General Douglas MacArthur - United Nations Forces Commander in Chief
“But in these concerned days, the heroism shown by the Turks has given hope to the American nation. It has inculcated them with courage. The American public fully appreciates the value of the services rendered by the Turkish Brigade…by the heroism shown by the Turks," 2 December 1950, from the commentary of a US radio commentator. I did not write these echoes. They are from a U.S. Web site: www.korean-war.comI have a question that needs an urgent answer from the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee and Nancy Pelosi, the eminent speaker of the House:
Either the Turks are indecent people and committed genocide in 1915 and pogrom in 1955, then the above echoes are all lies… or, they are “courageous, decent, honorable and heroic people” and as such “valuable allies of the American nation”… or, the American people have a very weak memory and forget what they said and wrote about the Turks in 1950 - which they had promised would remain eternally in their minds?
Which is true? Were the U.S. representatives and senators lying in 1950 or 1955 and 2007?Corollary: If 1915 and 1955 were genocide and pogrom, then Vietnam and Iraq are double genocide and triple pogrom. The House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee should dig into the deaths occurring in Iraq every day in 2007 instead of who killed whom in 1915. * Mehmet Arif Demirer is a former politician who is now engaged in business.
